| My name is Haku and though computers are my passion and I enjoy working ON them as well as working WITH them, I've come to accept their limitations. I've called the help desk too and have come to a similar resignation. This section addresses some of those shortcomings.
"User Friendly," and "Self Explanatory," were the hype that swept us into the Information Rich Millenium but they're not the common currency of Hi-Tech today. The machines are faster and the software is more reliable but recurring resource conflicts, indecipherable error messages, and data corruption have moderated our expectations. The never ending, ever eventful round of Software Upgrades have lengthened rather than flattened the learning curve and the abudance of choices on the default users' desktop betrays the promise of simplicity. It's still there, it's just buried under all the options. Among the options is optimal performance. PCs may be adjusted to suit their owner's temperament and tolerence. Phase One: Optimizing the User Interface, and Phase Two: System Optimization, are meant to alleviate new users' frustrations. For those who have passed beyond frustration, there's Personalization! Technical support covers a broad range of topics. Under specific titles from Hardware to Webwork are well sifted links to the best data I've found in over five years of directed and eclectic study on the Internet. Local Knowledge refers to a continually growing catalog of gems I find personally enlightening. Your mileage may vary. Help yourself. Click here for the "Pitch":
