Across from the Hawaii State Capital Building on Beretania Street, within the Honolulu Board of Water Supply's parking lot, used to stand the house where my father was born: on Weaver Lane.
"(The) Sister fort to Fort Ka-mehameha at the entrance to Pearl Harbor, (was) established in 1922 and named for Major General Erasmus M. Weaver, chief of the coast artillary, 1911-1918. It is now a naval reservation. (Addleman34)." Place Names of Hawaii by Mary Kawena Pukui, Samuel H. Elbert & Esther T. Mookini.
The Lane came by the name because the General resided there and since such honors were usually awarded posthumously, the Fort was named after it. Ordinances of the City and County of Honolulu require that all new streets consist of Hawaiian names, ensuring that this will be the only lane named Weaver in Honolulu.
